Introducing Vivo PD
A Comprehensive Group Music Psychotherapy Program for Parkinson's Disease
How Music Can Facilitate Neuro-rehabilitation in People with Parkinson's Disease

Vivo PD stands as one of the most comprehensive and musically intuitive music psychotherapy program available tailored for individuals with Parkinson's Disease (PD). Facilitated by a professionally trained music psychotherapist, this eclectic program integrates multiple clinically proven approaches—including techniques from neurological music therapy, psychotherapy, active music therapy, music-based movement therapy and other renowned approaches—to address all domains of PD symptoms. By focusing on gait and balance, motor skills, cognition, and voice/breathing, Vivo PD not only enhances physical health but also fosters psychological well-being and a sense of community among participants.
This program has since been successfully adapted to support residents with a range of neurological conditions such as stroke and Alzheimer’s disease, while remaining engaging and beneficial for all residents through its creative, inclusive, and socially enriching structure. Research shows music therapy can significantly aid older adults by improving cognitive function—particularly in dementia and mild cognitive impairment—with meta-analyses reporting moderate standardized improvements (SMD ≈ 0.6‑0.8) in global cognition using active and rhythmic methods . In stroke rehabilitation, neurologic music therapy and rhythmic auditory stimulation have been shown to enhance motor control, gait, speech, and cognition through neuroplastic changes in sensorimotor pathways . For Alzheimer’s, music therapy promotes reminiscence, mood stabilization, and social connection via limbic activation, while reducing agitation and anxiety. Even receptive and active music sessions can ease depression, reduce distress, and stimulate autobiographical recall in older adults . Music psychotherapeutic approaches like Vivo PD harness these benefits, combining evidence-based structure with inclusive, joyful group interaction that enhances motor skills, cognition, emotional resilience, and social well‑being across diverse populations.
